Traditional Use: Both the herb and the oil have been used for digestive problems and skin complaints.

Properties: Antimicrobial, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic, digestive, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, febrifuge, stimulant, stomachic

Benefits: Amenorrhea, anemia, congestion, cramps, dysmenorrhea, edema, flatulence, gout, indigestion, muscle aches and pains, poor circulation, rheumatism, spasm, water retention. Lovage is a strong oil with a distinctive aroma; therefore not much is needed in a blend. It may be added to a massage oil to take advantage of the antispasmodic properties.

Blends Well With: Bay, galbanum, lavender, oakmoss, opopanax, rose, spice oils

Of Interest: Lovage stalks have a resemblance to its cousin celery. They have been used blanched in salads, and other vegetable dishes.
