Traditional Use: Elemi was included in the aromatic blend that the Egyptians used for embalming. Its use of treating wounds and skin infections dates back to the 16th century.

Properties: Analgesic, antiseptic, antiviral, expectorant, fungicidal, regulatory, stimulant, tonic

Constituents:  Elemol, a-phellandrene, terpinolene

Benefits: Aged skin, bronchitis, catarrh, diarrhea, exhaustion, immune support, muscular pain, sinusitis, stress, ulcers. In perfumery elemi is used as a fixative in a blend. The analgesic and antiseptic properties make this oil very useful in a blend to wash out any cuts or wounds that may be infected. The expectorant and antiviral actions support respiratory infections such as bronchitis.

Blends Well With: Cinnamon, frankincense, lavender, myrrh, rosemary, sage, spice oils

Of Interest: Elemi is closely related to frankincense and myrrh. You may see it referred to as "poor man's frankincense" as is has similar properties.
